01Who we are

MEX Restoration is the restoration division of The MEX Company Associated Inc., and it works on one thing: the original detail in a home.

Plaster moldings, cornices, medallions, ornamental plaster, and the stair and railing work that sits alongside them.

That focus is deliberate. General remodeling crews are set up to replace; a restoration specialty is set up to keep what is sound and match what is missing. The two produce very different rooms.

It is also not museum conservation. The work is for people who live in the house: brownstones, townhouses, pre-war apartments and custom homes where the detail is worth keeping and the room still has to function.

02How we work

Six things that don’t change from job to job

  1. 01

    Photos before a visit

We review every request from photos first, so nobody schedules a visit for work that isn’t a fit.

  2. 02

    The original is the reference

The surviving profile, panel or baluster is the pattern for anything made new.

  3. 03

    Repair first

Sound original material stays. We replicate only what is truly lost.

  4. 04

    Seams blended, not patched

The work is judged where new meets old.

  5. 05

    Residential scale

Lived-in homes, residential schedules, rooms that still have to work.

  6. 06

    Close to home

Hudson County and Northern New Jersey.
