01Overview

Most of the plaster in an older home is worth keeping. We retain sound original material, stabilize what has moved, and recreate only what is truly gone.

Cracking usually reflects movement, past leaks or failed keys behind the lath, not a material that has reached the end of its life. We assess what is sound, what needs to be re-secured, and what has been lost, then work in that order.

When a usable original profile remains, it becomes the reference for the repair. When a section is gone entirely, the work moves into molding replication; when the damage is to a medallion, panel or relief detail, see decorative plaster repair.

02How we approach it

Keep what is sound. Match what is missing.

  1. 1

    Assess what is sound

From your photos, then in person, we sort the plaster into what is sound, what has come loose and what has been lost.

  2. 2

    Stabilize and re-secure

Loose sections are secured back in place and cracks repaired, with the original material left where it is.

  3. 3

    Recreate only what is missing

Lost sections are made to the surviving profile and blended until the seam can’t be found.
